BOD meter is widely used in wastewater of factories, which is the useful quality in water and useful level of wastewater.
Biochemical Oxygen Demand (symbol BOD), is an index and procedure used to determine how quickly organisms use up oxygen in water. or how slow. It is used in water quality management and surveying as well as in ecology or environmental science.
Biochemical oxygen demand is the amount of oxygen needed for microorganisms to oxidize organic substances in a specified period of time and is denoted by BOD calculated in mg/L.
2. BOD meter
A device used to analyze and determine the dissolved oxygen content consumed by aerobic microorganisms in water, wastewater of industrial plants, environmental organizations, and specialized analysis rooms.
4. Why should you calibrate a BOD meter?
- Reflects wastewater quality, providing a database for environmental agencies to analyze and evaluate the current status of wastewater.
- Describe the scale and effectiveness of the wastewater treatment process
- Based on the ratio between BOD/COD (chemical oxygen demand cod meter), it is possible to evaluate the level of biological decomposition of the output wastewater.
- BOD reflects the level of organic pollution in the receiving source.
- The higher the BOD index, the less oxygen in the wastewater. If not controlled promptly, polluted wastewater will take away the oxygen necessary for the respiration and metabolism of organisms.
- Measuring the BOD index is one of the mandatory requirements in discharge permits of production and business establishments with large-scale discharge activities.
5. Calibration procedure
The summary below is the presentation of the BOD Meter calibration procedure referenced from the technical literature ĐLVN 127:2003.The actual equipment calibration process will have certain differences in the method (internal process) compared to the general standards ĐLVN 127:2003.
- This technical document stipulates the procedure for calibrating a BOD meter with a temperature range of (0 ÷ 50) oC, temperature stability ± 1oC.
- Multi-point temperature measuring device, measuring range (0 ÷ 50) oC, resolution 0.1oC.
- Time measuring device, with division value of 0.01 s.
- Thermometer and hygrometer measure environmental temperature.
Humidity measurement range: (0 ÷ 100) %RH, graduation value 2 %RH
Temperature measurement range: (0 ÷ 50) oC, 1 oC division value
When performing calibration, the following environmental conditions must be ensured:
+ Temperature: (23 ± 2)°C
+ Relative humidity: (40 ÷ 70) %RH
Before performing calibration, the following preparations must be performed:
- Operate the BOD cabinet according to this vehicle's User Manual to stabilize operation
- Operate multi-point temperature measuring device to stabilize operation.
- Visually check to determine the conformity of the BOD cabinet with the requirements specified in the technical documents regarding shape, size, temperature indication, power source used, brand, and guarantee structure. tightness of cabinets, documents and accompanying accessories.
- Check the normal operating status of the BOD cabinet according to the instructions for use stated in the accompanying technical documents.
- Determine stability over time
- After calibration, the biochemical oxygen demand measuring device is stamped and issued a calibration certificate with the calibration results.
- Recommended calibration cycle: 01 year
