A temperature humidity chamber is a special type of cabinet that may have other names such as environmental testing cabinet or temperature and humidity testing cabinet. This type of cabinet is specifically used to simulate environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity.

1. What is a temperature humidity chamber?

A humid temperature cabinet (also known as a microclimate cabinet or an environmental cabinet) is a device used to create suitable conditions for testing the stability and stability of various materials by simulating conditions such as temperature. , humidity, pressure and light,... This is a commonly used device in laboratories

2. Structure and operating principle

2.1 Structure

The temperature and humidity chamber is quite simple, with individual parts integrated and supporting each other to ensure effective operation. Below is a description of the important parts in the chamber:
  • Cooler and regulation system: Locations near the edge of the cabinet or sample cabinet often do not maintain a uniform temperature. This unit regulates the air to ensure temperature uniformity.
  • Humidifier: Often combined with a capacitive humidity sensor, this unit provides quick results through connection to the machine. This quick analysis, after collecting and analyzing the information, helps restore the initial temperature when the cabinet is opened for a short time.
  • Dehumidification and dehumidification system: An important and indispensable role, this system helps maintain the stability of humidity in the cabinet.
  • Water supply system: Pre-installed in the machine, making it easy to move and use the cabinet wherever needed. Connected to a humidifier, this system conveniently dispenses water quickly and simply.
  • Regulating system: plays an important role in the relationship between users and environmental cabinets

2.2 Operating principle

- Temperature Humidity Chamber will create controlled environmental conditions. The gas and water supplied to the cabinet are routed through cooling and heating systems to reach certain standards before being put into the test chamber.

- In the test chamber, environmental parameters, including gas velocity, are maintained and continuously fed back to the control system through sensors to promptly issue appropriate adjustment commands.

- The specimen in the test chamber interacts with ambient temperature and humidity to perform the desired test. Test results are collected through live images or cameras, or other additional sensors and measuring devices inside the test chamber.

- Performing multiple tests by varying temperature and humidity parameters will give the most complete test results of the sample's behavior. According to the cooling, heating and humidification type, the system complexity and control type correspond to different Environmental Test Cabinet models, meeting different testing requirements.

3. Application

Temperature and humidity chambers are used when your physical test samples need to be conditioned in a standard environment to meet standard requirements, ensuring accurate correlation between results. Not only that, this device is also used in many different fields, specifically:

  • The laboratory is certified to meet standards
  • Laboratory
  • Special measuring room
  • Laboratory for paper and board
  • Textile analysis laboratory
  • Laboratory for preparing glues and adhesives
  • Leather processing and tanning laboratory

4. Why should you need to calibrate temperature humidity chambers?

- Calibration of a humid temperature cabinet is a technical inspection activity, evaluating the quality of equipment in a certain order to conclude whether it is suitable or not. After being calibrated, the testing/calibration organization will issue a result certificate and a calibration stamp will be placed on the device.

- Humidity cabinets are important equipment in testing laboratories, manufacturing, and medical facilities. These thermal cabinets are used to preserve samples, medical materials, or important chemical products.

5. Calibration procedure

5.1 Calibration means

- Measurement standards:

  • Standard temperature probes, standard dew point thermometer
  • Multi-channel standard indicating (or self-recording) device

- Auxiliary means:

  • Mounting system for standard thermometers and hygrometers
  • Magnifying glass
  • Time meter
  • Pure alcohol, gloves, cleaning cloth for heating cabinet

5.2 Calibration conditions

- When performing calibration, the following conditions must be met:

  • Temperature: (23 ± 3)oC
  • Humidity: no more than 70%RH

- The supply voltage must be stable and must meet calibration requirements

5.3 Prepare calibration

- Check the operating status of the heat and humidity chamber that needs to be calibrated according to the manufacturer's manual

- Prepare thermometers and dew point thermometers and place the standard measuring probes in the humidity cabinet

- The standard measuring probes are fixed and evenly distributed in the cabinet, distributed along the corners of a prismatic block as per technical documents.

- Install the standard measuring probes into the indicating device (or record automatically)

5.4 Perform calibration

5.4.1 Initial inspection

- Symbols and labels on humidifier cabinets must be clear, including:

  • Device model
  • Production number
  • Manufacture factory
  • Temperature range

- Humidity heating cabinet is not cracked or damaged.

5.4.2 Technical inspection

- Check the operating status of the humidifier when supplying nominal voltage

- The control system for the functions of the cabinet operates normally

- The indicator operates stably, without sudden changes or fluctuations. For digital display indicators, the displayed numbers must be clear, not blurred or out of focus; For similar indicators, the graduation lines must be complete, not blurred or missing digits, and the indicator needle must not be stuck.

- Cabinet doors must ensure tightness, not warped or cracked; Other parts of the humidifier operate without signs of abnormality;

- Check that the convection fan is operating normally

5.4.3 Measurement inspection

- Check at one point in the sequence

- Processing calibration results

5.4.3 Estimate the measurement of Uncertainty

- Calculate the measurement uncertainty of the standard combination

- Calculate the measurement uncertainty of the humid heat cabinet

- Calculate the combined measurement uncertainty

- Calculate the expanded measurement uncertainty (with 95% confidence level, coverage factor k = 2)

5.6 General handling

After calibration, the temperature humidity chamber is issued a calibration certificate with calibration results.

Recommended calibration cycle: 01 year
